Scholarship Rules

  1. All high school seniors that attend the Michigan Youth Sportsmen Competition State Event during the year of application and comply with all rules of the MYSC Scholarship Program are eligible to participate.

  2. Each applicant must be scheduled to attend an accredited University or College in the fall or spring immediately following their participation in the MYSC State Event.

  3. One applicant will be selected and awarded a $500.00 scholarship payment, which must be used for the winner’s educational expenses. Selection of the winner will be based on the scoring provided by an independent group of judges appointed by the MYSC Organization. Selection will be based upon their evaluation of a written essay submitted by the applicant.

  4. Applicants must submit a MYSC Application Form, a list of community service projects and dates performed for the last four years, along with an essay completed entirely by the applicant. Each applicant may submit only one (1) application and essay.

  5. Each applicant will submit an essay limited to a maximum length of four (4) one-sided 8.5 x 11 pages, typed in size 11 font and double spaced with 1” margins. Each essay must address the topic “How MYSC and other youth shooting sport programs have affected your life and how you will use those experiences to promote outdoor education and conservation.”

  6. Each essay must be submitted attached to the application form; however, under no condition is the applicant's name to appear on the essay.

  7. All applications and essays must be postmarked no later than July 15, 2024..

  8. Mail applications to: MYSC Scholarship PO BOX 311, Carson City, MI 48811.

  9. The MYSC Organization will appoint a group of individuals (minimum of three (3) judges) to independently evaluate each essay, rank each essay as to its merits, and submit the determination to the MYSC Board. The MYSC Board will collect the scores from each judge and determine the aggregate score for each essay. The essay attaining the highest aggregate score value will determine the winner and recipient of the MYSC Scholarship Award. The decisions of the judges and MYSC Board are final and are not open for review or challenge.

  10. Proof of acceptance of an accredited University or College must be provided to the Michigan Youth Sportsmen Competition prior to the disbursement of any funds.

  11. The winner of the MYSC Scholarship will be announced at the Award Ceremony of the MYSC State Event.

  12. In the event that the selected winner either does not attend a University or College in the fall or spring following the MYSC State event

  13. or does not provide the necessary documentation, the scholarship award will be given to the individual designated as “second place”. If that individual does not meet the requirements, the process will continue until a successful applicant is determined.

  14. MYSC reserves the right to modify and/or interpret or apply the Scholarship Rules to ensure fairness and provide equal opportunity to all applicants.
